Manage brightness and display timeouts across your smart reader fleet.
Configure auto-brightness and display timeouts using the Dashboard or the Configuration API. Display settings apply only to supported smart readers.

You can require automatic brightness or keep brightness adjustable on the reader. Each display timeout is independent. You can keep a timeout adjustable on the reader, or set a duration with a configuration, which makes it visible but read-only. Settings you don’t set inherit from a parent configuration, or stay adjustable on the reader if no parent sets them.

If no configuration sets a value, the reader uses the default settings: auto-brightness is off, the plugged-in display timeout is never and the battery display timeout is one hour.
From the location details page
- Go to the Terminal Locations page.
- Click the location you want to configure.
- Click the edit icon ( ) next to the Brightness row under Local configurations or Inherited configurations .
- Turn Require auto-brightness on to adjust brightness automatically based on ambient light, or leave it off to keep brightness adjustable on the reader.
- Click Done .
- Click the edit icon next to the Display timeout row.
- For On battery and Plugged in , set Timeout control to Adjustable on device or Enforced by configuration . If you enforce a setting, select its Timeout duration .
- Click Done .
- Review the final configuration for the location and click Apply changes .
From the manage locations page
- Go to the Manage locations page.
- Find the Location you want to configure.
- Click the overflow menu ( ) > Edit configuration .
- Click Edit or Override next to the Brightness row, configure brightness control and click Done .
- Click Edit or Override next to the Display timeout row, configure the battery and plugged-in timeouts and click Done .
- Click Apply changes .
